When the word “sexy” comes up in conversation, magazine covers and movie scenes of practically perfect people in practically perfect lighting immediately come to mind. But sexy doesn’t just mean long legs and perfectly flowing blonde hair. Those things don’t hurt, but truly, anyone can be sexy regardless of the length of their legs. Sexy starts inside. Really!
1. One simple way to boost feeling sexy is to get fit.
Regular trips to the gym or early morning yoga may already be part of your routine, but if they are not, don’t despair – it’s never too late to start. But when you do, start small and easy. Begin by replacing all sugary snacks with fresh fruit. You still satisfy your sweet tooth and decrease your sugar intake. It will make a difference faster than you think. It will also help your afternoon sugar highs and lows to balance.
Still keeping it simple, take the stairs instead of the elevator, walk to lunch instead of drive, keep yourself moving throughout the day. Take a lap around the office every 30 minutes. Tap your feet under your desk. Do stretches and take deep breaths every hour. Get your heart pumping as often as you can.
Dancing burns up to 300 calories an hour (and it doesn’t feel like exercise). It’s fun and, believe it or not, it will help you feel sexier. Watch someone else dance and then imitate their moves in front of a mirror. At first it may just make you laugh – also good for you! Watch yourself dance and keep on trying different steps until you know you look good.
3. Give your mind a workout.
Join a book club or audit a college class. Exercising your mind helps keep you mentally agile and confident. Or even just talk. Talk to your friends, your husband, your sister; talk to some you trust and share what really matters to you. When you know someone else will help to carry your load and share in your joys, you free up your mind and body to relax and enjoy life.
4. Sleep, sleep, sleep.
Nothing ruins a sexy outfit like dark circles under your eyes. Nothing puts an end to a sexy evening like falling asleep. Sleep can also help rejuvenate your skin. Like the rest of your body, your skin needs down time to repair and rebuild. But your beauty rest isn’t just for your face – it’s for your spirit and emotions too. Remember, no amount of caffeine can compensate for the lost physical and mental benefits of not getting enough sleep.
5. Be yourself.
Take a hip-hop class. Who cares if you’re 55 years old! Cry while you watch old movies. Enjoy knitting or mountain biking or shopping. When you budget time to do those things that you enjoy, you are more relaxed and fulfilled. Do what you like to do, not what’s trendy. Nothing says sexy like a confident woman who knows herself and invites others to get to know her too.
